Oxygen desaturation during fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
A prospective study was performed to detect oxygen saturation (SaO2) during and following fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) in 50 patients. Twenty-five patients (group 1) underwent the procedure without and 25 (group 2) with supplemental oxygen. The SaO2 declined from the baseline value of 96.4% to 92.08% in group 1 and to 94.88% in group 2 after bronchoscopy alone. The decline was also noted when ...
متن کاملEvaluation of oxygen requirement in patients during fiberoptic bronchoscopy
Background: Sometimes oxygen is given to patients during fiberoptic bronchoscopy to prevent arterial hypoxemia, but oxygen usually is given to patients with SPO2 less than 90%. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the patient's oxygen requirement according to SPO2 and its relationship with Pulmonary Function Test (PFT). Methods: From January 2006 to April 2007, 146 patients who needed fibe...
متن کاملTranscutaneous oxygen monitoring during fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
A transcutaneous oxygen sensor was used to detect the development of hypoxemia in patients undergoing fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Measurements of transcutaneous PO2 (tcPO2) correlated well with arterial PO2 (PaO2), and correctly detected all instances when PaO2 was less than 65 mm Hg. The sensor was noninvasive and caused no adverse effects.

In particular, in the study by Garcia-Rio et al1 the FEVL values of the population with the pneumothorax were particularly low (56±10%), which implies a greater association with hyperinfla¬ tion. Unfortunately, the incidence of patients with a pathologic FEVX (<70%) was not given (it was 19% in our population). The different results in predictivity of FEV1 seem to be conflicting; but without th...
متن کاملComplications of Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy
Study objective: To retrospectively review the indications and complications associated with flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FFB) in a university teaching hospital. Design: retrospective review from April 1, 1988 to March 30, 1993. Setting: Large tertiary care university hospital. Patients or participants: We reviewed 4,273 consecutive FFBs, including 2,493 bronchoalveolar lavages and 173 tra...
